TOP TIP

Be ready to provide copies of your grade transcripts including your high-school score along with the job application.

General Outline

Norwegian CV style and format is generally quite straightforward and simple, 1 page CVs are quite common. In case you want to have a more detailed CV, maximum of 2 pages should be the limit. As with other Scandinavian countries, a CV for the Norwegian job market should not “oversell” the candidate, so it is advisable to back your statements of excellence in certain areas with concrete achievements (good academic results, accomplishments at work and personal life, etc.) Remember, modesty is a virtue in Norway!

Personal Information

Include your full contact details, including address, phone number and email. Specify your birth date and nationality. It is also customary for a Norwegian CV to include marital status and whether you have children.

Date at the top

Do add the date of writing/updating your CV at the top of the page to highlight its accuracy.

Career Objective/Statement

Traditionally a career objective was not included on a Norwegian CV, however recently more and more recruiters in Norway would like to see a personal statement on a resume from a job applicant. It is a good way to showcase all your most impressive and relevant credentials in a few sentences, so make sure to use power verbs and key words from the job advertisement. Mention why you want a specific job/career path and what qualities you bring to this job.

Work Experience

Use reverse chronological order to list you previous work experience, including dates, company names, locations, positions that you held and key responsibilities learned. It is advisable to use keywords as were specified in the job advertisement to highlight your skills and educational relevance for a specific position.
