TOP TIP

There is not one CV format that will be considered the major winning CV in Nigeria; the secret is that your CV should be simple and self-explanatory is a winning cv depending on the organisation in question.

Contact details

It is not necessary to mention all of your personal details at the top of the CV. Only mention your contact details. Your personal details should be found at the end of the CV, before the ‘references’ section.

Photo

It is not common to add a picture to the CV, unless the company asks for it. Double check this before sending out your CV.

E-mail address

It seems obvious, and yet these kinds of mistakes are made often. Make sure you e-mail is appropriate. This counts for every job application, in every country, for every kind of organisation.

Personal objective

It is not uncommon to mention your personal objective before educational and work experience. In this way you make it clear what your goals and prospects are, and what you are looking for in the position. This can be one sentence, but do not hesitate to give information more extensively, however, do not exaggerate.

Personal Skills

It is not uncommon to bullet point your personal skills on the first page of the CV. This is used to show the (future) employer the contribution you could make to the company.

Work Experience

It is common to give a short introduction of the company, and describe your position. Next, list your own responsibilities and tasks.
