Languages

Learning the language of the country you are going to work in will increase your chance of finding a job. It shows interest, and it will help you understand the (business) culture. It is not necessary to be fluent in Malay as English is widely spoken, but shows your keenness to understand the local culture.

Cultural adaptation

If you are applying for a job in a country in which the main religion in Islam, you might want to reconsider listing ‘beer brewing’ as one of your favourite hobbies. Always make sure the content of your CV does not breach the country’s norms and values.

References

In a country where personal connections play a major role, references are a good way to show your potential employer that there are people willing to vouch for you and this adds to your credibility. Hence list references if you have any. Make sure your referees know your future employer might get in touch with them.
