TOP TIP
It would be considered arrogant to exaggerate your duties and accomplishments in previous jobs, find the balance between clearly communicating your outstanding performance and plain bragging. It helps to mention tangible results in the CV.
International country
Employers in Luxembourg are generally quite accustomed to receiving applications from international jobseekers; hence the rules aren’t too strict. Style and content of your CV may vary, however the language in which the CV is written should be the same as the job advertisement, usually it is French, German or English. Most common is a CV of 1-2 A4 pages, especially for young graduates with limited work experience. Reverse-chronological order is preferred.
Personal Information
Include your name, contact details, telephone and e-mail. It is optional to include your nationality, but it is not advisable to mention your marital status or age.
Photo
Include your photo (passport-sized) in the top right corner of the CV. Make sure it is a professional profile picture, with a neutral background, keep your head straight and face clear (no hats/sunglasses/scarves/caps/etc.).
Professional Goal
State in a few short sentences why you are applying for a specific position/industry and what you are looking forward to in your new job (e.g. getting new experience, mastering new skills, etc). Include an eye-catcher: mention your most relevant competencies, skills and experience relevant for the position you are applying for. Use the jargon common in the industry, give your fluency in languages and computer software as well as key “soft skills”. This way a recruiter can quickly assess how relevant your application is.
Education
Include the name of educational institution, dates of attendance, passed courses relevant to the job, and the name of your degree. Reverse chronological order is used. Note: it is customary to include copies of diplomas/certificates and references along with the job application, so it is handy to make several copies in advance.
Work Experience
If you are a more experienced applicant, you can swap the Work Experience section with Education to highlight practical expertise. List your previous jobs in a reverse chronological order, including dates of employment, and specify key job responsibilities.
Job responsibilities
Use power verbs like achieved, demonstrated, accomplished, organised, etc. to describe your accomplishments.
