TOP TIP

Purpose of a resume (in Columbia the term resume is used instead of CV) is to get a recruiter sufficiently interested to invite you for a job interview. Make sure your resume is job-specific and highlights those skills most relevant to the job. Make it convincing and appealing.

In Spanish

It would be highly recommended to write your resume in Spanish. However, only do go for a Spanish language resume if your level of Spanish is adequate for this. Typos or grammatical errors are not done!

Professional Summary

It is not necessary to list your professional summary, but if you decide to do so, keep it clear and concise. And make it convincing. The Columbian job market has a divide between teaching jobs and jobs for multinational companies. If you apply at a multinational organisation recruiters expect candidates that come prepared and know how to sell their own experience. For teaching jobs, your level of English is most important.

What comes first?

Education is usually listed before work experience, certainly for teaching jobs. Education is mostly listed in chronological order. Do not underestimate the high level of education in Columbia. Hence, provide a good overview of your education.

Work experience

List your work experience after your education. It is best to list your work experience in reversed chronological order and mention the tasks that you have done and goals you have achieved. It is okay to go into detail, but keep it concise. Follow the KISS method: Keep It Short and Simple!
