TOP TIP

It is highly advisable to check in advance what the main language (Swiss German, French or Italian) within the organisation is and write your CV in the language of the region. An Italian CV is rarely requested though. An English CV might be all right for most international companies, but it is advisable to check in advance.

Structure

A Swiss CV is similar in structure to a German CV. Straight forward, clean and with no gaps in the chronology.

Photo

A photo is (usually) attached to the top right corner.

Career Objective

This is not a long-term career objective, but simply list the (type of) job you are applying for.

Work experience

Swiss recruiters attach great importance to work experience, so mention all your practical experience, including internships/apprenticeships.

Skills

Language skills and computer literacy have to be mentioned. Particularly in a multi-lingual country such as Switzerland people expect you to be fluent in at least two languages.

Hobbies

Extracurricular activities, hobbies and interests are optional, but they do add some extra flavour to your CV and particularly when you are at the beginning of your career with limited relevant experience it can be helpful to include these additional activities.

References

It is common to present your references on a separate sheet of paper and not included in your CV. (Of course you inform your referees in advance of the fact that you are listing them!)
