TOP TIP
“Electronic CV” - in case a recruiter asks you to send your CV by fax, it is advisable to have a specially formatted CV for that, e.g. do not include your profile picture and creative fonts in the main body. All other content should be exactly the same as in the original CV.
General Outline
Russian-format CVs are quite formal and purely factual in style and content, unless you are applying for a job in a “creative” industry, it is advisable to use conservative formatting. Maximum length should not exceed 1-2 pages, it is important to avoid unnecessary blank spaces, but still make sure that all information on a CV is readable and represents all the relevant skills and experience for the job.
Personal Details
Along with contact details, it is customary to include personal information such as your date and place of birth, nationality, marital status and whether you have children on your CV.
Objective
Generally includes the name of the position you are applying for, or, in case of a speculative application, 2-3 areas of interest, where you would like to work. The objective section should also include your personal and professional ambitions in relation to specific position.
Work Experience
Both work experience and education are usually presented in a chronologically reversed order, with the latest job experience shown at the top. In a few sentences mention your key job responsibilities and achievements, preferably giving concrete examples of the projects you have completed. Use power verbs (e.g. achieved, reached, developed, organised, managed, transformed) to help grab recruiter’s attention.
Salary
It is quite customary (but not necessary) to include salary expectations in your career objective statement, since most job advertisements in Russia state gross salary upfront and this way the recruiter will see if mutual expectations fit upfront.
Education and Training
Russian Graduate CV’s would often mention the faculty and the name of the major along with the name of the institution. For example, a graduate from Moscow State University would also mention that her/his faculty is “International Economics” and her/his specialisation lies in “International economic relations and international business administration”. It would also be advisable to mention the average grade of your diploma on CV, especially if you are in the top 10-20% of your class.
